There's a guy in the same office suite who says hi EVERY TIME he walks by. Why? Why? You just said hi 2 minutes ago when you went to the bathroom. And, to add annoy, to annoying, he has to add "dear" at the end. "Hi, how are you dear."
For me, one in the morning and one in the evening is more than enough. I'd even be ok with one after lunch but really, 8 times or more a day, it's just too much for a person!

Once a day is more than enough. I have the same problem at my job. Some people just aren't comfortable with silence I guess-even if it's only in passing another person.
I've gotten to the point where the same person will continue saying hello to me and I just don't respond. It almost feels like I'm being rude, but I really don't think I am since I spoke when I first saw them in the morning.

One time is enough for me unless that person has an identical twin and I'm not sure which one I'd spoken to. I've known some identical twins for over twenty years and I still don't know them apart, so when I speak to one of them I just say the first name that comes to mind. I figure that if I've gotten the name wrong, they would understand that I still don't know them apart.

That would get annoying. I only say hi to someone once in a day. Unless they've gone out...then I say hi to them when they return.
