I agree with Nicole. Never go against your first reaction to situations and conditions that exist in your work environment. Other things to consider:
Hazardous materials and working conditions
No "Open Door Policy"
No employee manual or posted employee policies
No federal and /or state mandatory postings, like minimum wage postings
A supervisor who is beligerent
All of this could mean and more could mean that there is something really wrong with your employer. Contact your state employment board or the US Department of Labor if you need further assistance or to report your employer.

Well if you come home bleeding, it's generally a good clue... That aside, there's plenty of ways your work can seem hostile. mainly that you think someone at your work has it in for you, wants to get you fired/demoted or to take your job. It's generally not a good situation, but generally if you feel that way you should talk to your supervisor, or if it's your supervisor talk to his supervisor. but in that kind of a case you might start thinking about a new job. it sucks but it doesn't do you any good to be working somewhere that makes you miserable. Taking care of yourself includes being happy at work.

First off, are you ever scared to be there, if so that might be your first tip that yes you do. Always go with you gut feelling, if you have to ask that you may want to start thinking about finding a new job. You will have bad days at work but all of them should not be bad.
