I saw on the news this morning about mamograms and exams. My wife is from the Philippines and always had dark nipples and orea. After 21 years all of a sudden they're light pink.

Has anyone else had this happen and is it a sign of anything?

Change of color of the nipples is a new phenomenon. I have gone through the medical reference books but could not find change of color as a symptom of breast cancer. So you need not worry.

However, let us not take any chances. Please consult your doctor and if necessary an Oncologist to ensure there is nothing serious.

God Bless her.

The best way to find out for sure is to see a doctor.
I'm not 100% sure of the significance of lightening of colour (not had much experience with ladies with dark skin) but things which would be more significant would be change of size of breasts (uneveness increasing), change of texture of the breast skin and especially the areola and of course any lumps. Your wife should examine herself each month for these changes.

She could get a check up to be safe. There is a form of breast cancer that doens't show up well on mammograms or exams - it doens't form lumps, just meshes of material - and discolored areas of the breasts are often a sign of this. A check up would make you both feel better.
