I have been attached by the spelling police, and found guilty of a mistake. Being dyslexia all my life has been a frustration to me, but I keep writing, I keep trying. I don't need someone to diss me by saying I have a fault. Let me tell you I have many. Is there anyone else like me? Why isn't there a spell check on details, or did I miss it.

The ABC, and Spell Check only checks question, not the details is what I was referring to. I can see the box ABC, and Spell check.

Spelling is a nicety online in places like message boards and chat rooms, and nothing more than a nicety. My opinion is that if people can understand what you mean, even through occasionally transposed word order and misspelling, I think they should be civil and answer in the spirit in which the question was asked.

Some people use spelling, pronunciation, usage, etc., as a key to feeling better about themselves. They do this by developing a mindset that says verbal intelligence/aptitude makes them smart. They impose an interpretation of intelligence, on everyone they meet, based on the one thing they know they are good at, and that alone.

That's bunk, of course. Empty ego and self-flattery. An English Degree isn't the only -- or even the best -- sign of intelligence. Some dyslexics are brilliant in science and math. And in any event, most can do pretty well in real life, after school. That's what education that is worth anything is all about, anyway.

One reason may be because Yahoo provides a handy little spelling checker at the top right-hand corner of the text box. It says, "Check Spelling"; beside it is a green icon with a check-mark and ABC. Just click on it.

You know, they say that people feel most threatened by faults they find in themselves. Whenever someone tries to upset me I remember that fact and it makes me feel better. I hope it works for you. Also remember that no one can be perfect. I hope that person didn't ruin your day. :)
