I've done this flight six times now - and it's a killer.

Either way you go it's 24 hours flying time. The best way that I've found is via LA in 2 x 12 hours flights. You can go via Singapore or Abu Dabi - but this can be a more broken flight - up to four stops.

Have a look on www.expedia.co.uk to assess your options - and then use as a benchmark.

Total best flight 26-27 hours
Total worst flight 40 plus hours.

The flight takes 24 hours either via the US or via asia. No matter which way it's a long trek. Best way is to break it up into 2 twelve hour flights taking either a couple of days in L.A, Hong Kong or Singapore.

If you fly via the states many airlines give you an extra baggage allowance as well sometimes up to 40kg. Remember on long haul flights everything is free so just get stuck into the free booze get drunk and pass out! It's the easiest way to get through a terrible journey. Once you are in New Zealand though it'll all be worth it. I done the flight 8 months ago and I'm still in New Zealand!!

It took 22 hours with a stop over in Japan of all places. I reccomend that you have a 2 day break in a country at half way. It basically gives you a free stopover and a chance to see another country basically free. Also a chance to rest up... Its not that bad a flight.. but would recomend the new airbus for it. a good comfortable plane... Come see New Zealand it is awesome

The harbour-side town of Auckland is New Zealand's true city and the vivid economic heart of the country, know it with hotelbye . Auckland can also be referred to as the "City of Sails" and it sprawls out in helter-skelter style between Manukau Harbour (to the west) and Waitemata Harbour (to the east) with the small central city region right near the waterway. For many visitors to New Zealand, Auckland is the purpose of arrival, and a few days washing up the social and outdoor attractions here must be on every tourist's to-do list. The monuments, museums, and art galleries listed here are a number of the best in the country. The suburban coastline of the town is speckled with fine beaches, and the hawaiian islands of the Hauraki Gulf provide a taste of New Zealand's spectacular national park scenery right on the city's doorstep. Auckland happens to be a town worth seeing.

Done that flight a couple of times. Flew with Singapore Airlines. Took about 13 hours to reach Singapore then another 10 and a bit from there. Would reccommend that you stay in Singapore for a couple of days though as it is worth a look around and breaks up the flight.
