I do believe you are able to do kegel exercises and pelvic floor tilts. But nothing major. I know the guideline is to allow 4-6 weeks for your body to recouperate before doing anything major. This can vary depending on your type of delivery as well ie; c-section
Just wanted to add this tidbit as well. Exercising too much can cause you too bleed more and you can hemmorage (sp?) within 4 weeks of giving birth, so please be careful and always check with your doctor

As Allison and Candace have said, Keigels and pelvic tilts are good exercises that can be started while you are still in bed IF your doctor agrees. The key is medical advice, moderation, and listening to your body. Be sure to start off slowly, don't put the "full energy" into tightening muscles and lifting your hips. Take it just to the point of where you feel the pull then ease off. You'll be able to do it with full vigor in no time as long as you take care and do things correctly. These two are good because they promote circulation and help keep your back from feeling so sore from all it has been through. Take several small walks around the house if your doctor says it's ok. Also, while in bed, just flex your ankles/feet, tighten your leg muscles and relax and move your legs gently to encourage circulation. Others that are light and help promote circulation and regain muscle tone/strength are laying on your tummy (if you can) and left each leg as high as comfortable, hold for a sec, then lower and repeat. 5X each is a good starting point. The "cat stretch" is a good one to help get the stiffness out. Get on your hands and knees, hands placed so as to support upper body adequately. Slowly stretch forward until your forehead touches the bed (or floor if on floor mat). Then come back to start position and go on to arch your back like a cat and relax. You can also lay on your side and do leg lifts.
Just remember the good advice given by Allison and Candace...consult your doctor! Just ease into any program, and listen to your body and you should be back into a full exercise routine in no time. Enjoy the new baby and may all be blessed with good health.

If you feel good enough to exercise. Just don't over do it.... I personally couldn't imagine even feeling like exercising right after I have a baby.

Your best bet is to wait til you are healed and feel like you can. Dont start exercising right away as you could do damage or not heal right. Ask your doc when he feels it is right for you to start, and start out with something simple, like takin your baby on walks, or doing mega house work and keeping moving as much as possible.

My Dr. advised that I could do Kiegel exercises but not much more than that. I play volleyball and he made me wait 6 weeks because even though you feel great you can still have major problems. Let yourself heal.

If you have a C-section, you have to wait awhile. If you exercise too early, you could break your stitches.
