Hip Hop dance took over about 5 years ago, and I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon, nor do I remember ever going anywhere.
Hell, I'm happy for this and I traditionally like rock a lot more, but there is way more variety and originality in hip hop then there is in rock nowadays.

Hip hop is popular therefore it is "pop" music. Pop is short for popular. What ever is the most common and accepted type of music becomes pop music.
