when I recently moved my shower screen was caked in scum. My best tip was either cilit bang or white vinegar and a kitchen scourer, the green plastic ones. Spray the white vinegar on if you can and leave as long as you can then wipe over with the sponge/scourer and it does come off. Then get some cheap shower spray which can be sprayed after you have had a shower and you will notice it does not build up. Worked for me.

Vinegar is best.
But you could use sugar soap (available in powder or concentrated liquid form from DIY shops) and a plastic type scrubber if there were other contaminents. Needs thorough rinsing after although it is not corrosive or anything like that. Once it is clear try spraying the screen after each use with shower cleaner (eg LIDL's) which is otherwise not much use

I read all the previous answers and they're all great but I have a kinda weird one. Make a paste out of 3% Peroxide (you probably have it already in your medicine cabinet) and Cream of Tartar; the one you use to make meringue. Most of the soap scum is caused by hard water. I'm gonna try the idea of using lemon oil to prevent it from happening again!

I second the vinegar remedy. Worked great for me. Even with screens that aren't smooth. Trick is to use it straight, not diluted. White distilled vinegar only.
