In this problem, to find acceleration you would use the formula,
v_f^2 = v_i^2 + 2ad
where v_f and v_i are the final and initial speeds respectively, a is the average acceleration, and d is the distance the object accelerates over.

You know the final speed of 11.5 m/s, the initial speed is 0 m/s, and the distance is 15 m. Just plug in and solve for the acceleration.

WKT v*v = u*u+2as
11.5*11.5 = 2.a.15
a=132.5/30
a=4.4083333m/s*s

v=u+at
t= 11.5-0/4.408333333
t= 2.608s
