I have a child who was born on August 5th. She was premature by 3 weeks and she weighed 5lbs 9oz when she was born and when we left the hospital she weighed 5lbs 2 oz.Last week Tuesday when we went to the doctor she only weighed 7lbs 14oz. My question is how much should a 2 month old weigh?

im not talking bout that kind of weighing pn2gator. I feed the baby everytime she is hungry and she still is not gaining that much weight. im afraid when we go to the doctor tomorrow that if she has not gained the right amount of weight they might call dhs on me.

carol is right a baby should double their weight by 6 mo so shes on the right track at this rate shell be about 11 or 12 pounds by six months ..... just right .....as long as shes eating good and having normal bowl i would say your doing a good job of fattening her up and besides even if your doc doesnt feel shes gained enough i seriously doubt he would call protective services as this would be a health issue and not an abuse issue you are worrying way to much just relax and enjoy her.....................stop worrying

Hi I must tell you not to worry and I am quite honest - your baby should be fine. There is no exact or particular weight since you cant pretend that your baby who weighed 5lbs when born weighs the same as mine who was 7.5 lbs when born. She did very good in two months. Premature babies tend to take a longer time to gain weight but after 8 months approxiamtely your baby will grow well like any other baby. My friend s baby was born like yours. Now the boy is 10 months and weighs 22lbs but that happened recently. P.S Can you explain what is DHS means?

She has caught up for her age remember you said she was 3 weeks early she is growning normally.
Rule of thumb that I've heard for years and years is Double weight by 6 months and Triple weight by one. But young ones hopefully will catch up. I know my best friends littl girl did.
I know a lot of smaller babies that "caught Up" and they were all healthy now all in their 20's.

It is different for each child. Ask your doctor.
My daughter was 6 lbs 4 oz at birth and was at almost 8 pounds by her second month.

All kids are different. Iwould say your's is fine for being early. My daughter was 7lbs 14oz at birth. At 2 months she was 14lbs 1oz and now at 9 months she is at 20lbs 10oz.

Nothing! A baby that young should not be weighing stuff, wait till he's about 4 or 5 and maybe he/she will have enough math sense to be able to weigh.
