Alter boys - Congressional Pages. 'Do as I say, not as I do' is the message presented by both Church and State. Seems like the right wing conservatives want the rest of us to follow their tenet that they themselves do not abide by.

In politics, hypocracy is not only expected but appreciated. We legalize double standards. We create tougher circumstances for politicians to be indicted criminally.

The basic rule is this: In the United States, a politican dos not represent themselves. They represent their area (whether it be mayoral or a state representative). It doesn't matter what their personal life consists of so long as they fight for what their constituents ask them to.

When Bill Clinton's affair came into the spotlight, many people were incredibly upset: So long as he runs the country properly, I don't care who he's sleepin' with!

Yet, Bill Clinton's marriage policies did not reflect his personal decisions.

We elect representatives . . . not because they're perfect . . . but because they are willing to speak on our behalf.

Realistically, a politician gets away with a great deal. Most people do not know their senator's voting record. They don't know who's backing his campaigns. Everything learned about a politician comes from the campaign smears during election time.

This gives politicians a little more flexibility in how they want to vote. Even then, they don't vote based on how they personally feel. They vote according to their party. They vote according to how their backers want them to vote. They could feel something entirely opposite of their voting pattern.

We elect them BECAUSE they can be hypocritical.

Is your tenet "be judgmental. Stereotype. Believe everything you see in the media and apply it to all people who vote a certain way?" Or should we do as you say and not as you do?
