Well, as with you and other women, we remember what is important or pertinent to us. Just because something is important to you, doesnt mean we give a spit, nor should we have to do so. I mean, I doubt that you can remember who won last years series or who was the nascar points leader, right?
We tend to remember things that we find important, pertinent, of us. Isnt that how we all are.

dear, define "important"!!! don't judge anyone comparing with you. not all men are the same, but men do have a different way of perceiving the world, it's structure, meaning, :) the purpose of life... Don't expect him to think like a woman, because from this point of view, they are a different species, remember? the men are from Mars, women from Venus? and as you don't expect a dog to think like a cat, their different structured brain will not play as you want unless you brainwash them.

I don't think that is a gender issue. I remember all the birthdays and things like that where my ex couldn't remember even her own mother's birthday I had to call to remind her so I guess its a gift for some and curse for others.

I would just say "because they're weird" but, it's not just that. They're not created like us. They don't care for the same things that we care for such as: birthdays, anniversary, first dates, children's birthdays, Dr's appointments. Also, most men know their wife/girlfriend will remember those dates for them and will remind them(they call it NAG) on a daily basis. We treat them as babies and they embrace it.

I'd like to think it's because they're like big animals and you can't expect to much from them. We, as women care about different issues. They think showing us they care is slapping our asses on the way to the couch to watch football. We think showing they care is flowers and a romantic dinner. It's not that they don't care, just that they're clueless.

well im using my bfs account so all i can say is "becuz there men! but it doesnt apply to all, even some of us " ladies" forget things that may not be important to us but have value to them.
