Good for you! Yes you can absolutely still nurse. After a hemmorage your milk supply does go down. But you can get it up again. First, take an iron supplement to help your body out. Take Fenugreek. It is a natural milk booster and you can get it in capsule form at the health food store. Nurse as often as you can and hand express after each feed. The nipple stimulation will signal more milk production even if you do not see much milk while hand expressing. There is a pill you can get from your doctor call Domperidone. It will increase your milk supply in 24-48 hours. Drink tons of water. If you really need some extra help call a La Leche League chapter in your area. I think that if it were me I would get the Domperidone temporarily because you do not want baby getting dehydrated or losing weight. I would also take the natural stuff too. Then when your supply is back in fully you can stop the pills and stick with the natural methods exclusively.
If you find you "have" to go to formula, there is something called a lactation aid. It is taped to your breast. When baby is latched on you put the little tube in the side of babies mouth. It is attached to a small amount of formula. But there are also milk banks too where you could get pastuerized breast milk to use in the lactation aid. Call your health dept or La Leche for info on that.

Congrats to you for not wanting to give up on nursing considering your situation... most people would have given up. I think you should get a gold star.
Anyways... yes... the way to boost your milk supply is to nurse nurse nurse nurse nurse nurse nurse... It will take a few days but usually in 2 days you will noticed a marked improvement.
Also, oatmeal is really good for helping boost your supply so have a few bowls of oatmeal (doesn't matter if it's plain or whatever) and that will help as well.
You can do it!

I was a breast feeding momma too sweetie and was sick for a little bit then went back to it too. I can tell you that breast milk does build itself back up with the amount of need your child has. I would suggest that you nurse like you are doing but add on a little time on each time. It builds your milk production up slowly and gives him more milk each time. Yes be sure to keep your liquids up and your nutrition as well. Be sure to get lots of calcium in your diet as both of you really need it right now.

I would ask my doctor, about nursing. Nursing makes your uterus cramp and I have never hemmoraged so I don't know if it would be good for you. Although it is normally good for mother.
But yes, if you feed him as often as possible, you can build up your milk again. Using a pump also helps stimulate milk production. Just make sure your pediatrician knows what you are doing and they he/she keeps and eye on your sons hydration.

As long as you begin nursing right away and you have not dried up, you should be able to get back into the swing of things. Just make sure you are healthy enough to do this, and not on any medication that may effect the baby.

I tried some tea that helps stimulate milk, and it really worked. You can find them in the baby sections.
Pump as much as you can, in addition to nursing from both breasts often.

Look for Fenugreek and fennel teas. Just look in the international food aisle in ur local chain store. Look for the seed or leaves and boil them and drink away.
