I thought that our founding fathers wanted us to "promote the spread of democracy" around the world. Does anybody think that we are forcing other countries to adopt a system that they don't understand or want?
I am not saying that i don't support democracy, I think it's great, but I thought the FF's just wanted us to encourage other govts to adopt a democratic system. Is that what we are doing in Iraq?

ps- I support our troops- I was one of them in Desert Storm, and I know what they are going through each day. So please don't blast me for being un-American.

I think we are doing it because America has a superiority complex. I think it's sort of like what the British did during colonization. We think we're right, therefore everybody must be like us.

(no offense to the British...)

With the fast pace of technological advancement, even a single person is a potential threat with adequate weaponisation in any form (even wealth is a potential weapon!)...
So, if one person has unlimited power over many, what to speak of it !
So, the freedom now means ensuring well distributed power, and if possible self-cancelling, mutually neutralising potential threats from all those who are in command of any type of technological advancement !
So now it is not just about democracy. The age old concept of democracy has become outdated. We seem to be back to square one ! Survival of the fittest (the old jungle law!).
In the name of democracy, it is just a sort of diplomatic cold war for basic survival ! You may call it just 'an on-going war' for retaining Independence !

When we entered Iraq and took Sadam out of power then it left the country with no form of government or leadship in place. I feel it was our responsibilty to set up the government for the people there, rather just leave it with noone in charge.

It makes you wonder why some people would sooner wear a wastcoat made of C4 and blow themselves to oblivion rather than embrace America`s seriously flawed democratic model. American democracy does not exist anymore, it`s gone.

That's the way this country has ALWAYS been
Dating back even to when the forefathers were here to shove religion down people's throats....our country motto should be:
Join up or die
