I see so many comments on here like, "They might beat the Padres, but they can't beat the Mets," or others like that. Do the people making the predictions not understand the amount of plain old chance involved with winning in a short series? Any team can beat another in a 3-of-5 series. It's a fact of probability, and it happens all the time (Houston over St. Louis last year, the Marlins in 2003, the Giants over the Braves/Cards in 2002), so why do people insist on still saying things like this when they're obviously untrue?

Predicting the order of finish over a 162-game schedule makes some sense, but a best-of-5 or best-of-7? I know matchups can be important in the playoffs (eg. young, tired Tigers pitchers against the powerful Yankees), but do you think the best team always wins?

Sorry for the rant!

You are thinking the same EXACT thing I was. You know, I was going to ask this question also. Seriously.

Everyone thinks the Mets will win the WS this year. But out of CHANCE, the Dodgers might even beat them in the NLDS. Anything is possible.

goodness, no. I'm from NE so I like the Red Sox (yah--go Red Sox...thank goodness the season's over for us!) but their not the best. You can't say who's better than who in such a broad range. When you focus on the team your playing and yourself, it helps, but the possibilities that you might lose outway the knowing you will win. It's been proven in math (not that I'm an expert or anything). The probabilty will always be their that the best team might loose, regardless of statistics. It's like that in every sport.

i dont think chance has much to do with it... maybe that trace amount of luck, and having a streak help, but generally the better team wins... for example, the Astros over the cardinals last year, the giants over braves/cards in 2002... yeah the better teams won there

Winner of a Division is always a true winner, like you said 162 games. Anyone can win a short series.

Kind of like Yahoo answers! Best answer doesn't always get the points. All you need are a couple votes and a little luck and you have a chance!
