There is a Software Module called DBAN. It will thoroughly erase your Hard Disk Drive. You will find it for download if you search for it through Google.

" Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") is a self-contained boot floppy that securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect, which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data destruction.

DBAN is a means of ensuring due diligence in computer recycling, a way of preventing identity theft if you want to sell a computer, and a good way to totally clean a Microsoft Windows installation of viruses and spyware. DBAN prevents or thoroughly hinders all known techniques of hard disk forensic analysis.

Merely formatting the Hard Disk drive does not mean that the Data in it, cannot be recovered. There are easily available software that can be used to recover Data.

Good Luck.

I'd format it, but this would not be enough. Normally, any low level application could access its original data.

What I would do is the following:

1. Install the drive on your PC as a secondary drive.
2. Install TrueCrypt (www.truecrypt.org -- Free!).
3. Format the drive (not quick format).
4. Create a TrueCrypt volume on your drive the size of your entire drive. **Do not create it dynamic**. This will create a large encrypted file with nothing on it. This may take some time...

Repeat steps 3-4 at least 2-3 times. This will overwrite every sector on your drive and should make all previous data disappear.

Good luck!

Format the drive. If you have the manufacturers utility disk use that. If not, go to their web site for the down load. They offer it for free. Also if you have an old win98 boot disk around you can use that providing your system has a floppy drive.A low level format will write x's & o's to your drive and will destroy all your data.

Go for manual FORMAT option in ur local drives viz D:\ E:\.etc.,

Just go 4 that particular drive and right click it and opt 4 FORMAT option.

This will erase all ur datas from ur local drive. Thus u can erase ur data from ur Hard Disk.

This method is as simple as any thing, irrespective of what ever data present in ur hard disk.

You either format it by adding it temporarily as second drive or with a format disc floppy. If you worry about your info still left then fill the drive up after formatting with lots of music files anything of no value to care about then fdisk then format then install lots of crap on it then give it away.
Take care!

DBAN - Derik's Boot and Nuke

Probably the best one out there that's free. You can write it to a floppy or a CD.
