I smoked for years in my house and when I quit I immediately found the house to reek of old stale smoke smell...I washed down the walls with 409 cleaner, shampooed all the carpets with a n odor eliminating disinfectant (eucalyptus/citrus) which I happened to get from the local nursing home, however many are on the market. All curtains, shades and bedding should be washed..along with clothing that has been hanging for a long time. This is the first step to getting rid of the odor of smoke, then when possible open all the windows , and doors and air the house out..Frebreeze is also a wonderful aid to spray on upholstered couches and chairs etc on any thing fabric including carpet, unclean able scatter rugs..it takes time for the old smell to finally wear out...Good luck and hope this helps

The place should be well-ventilated. Open windows and electric fan to rid of the smoke. Clean all ash trays and anywhere the ashes collect. Some use scented candle like orange or peppermint. You can try potpourri also. If the place is often used for smoking like that of a living room, you may want to wash the curtains, throw pillow cases, etc.,since the cigarette smell is already "embedded" on the fabric. l also know of some people who place pieces of charcoal on certain areas to absorb unpleasant odors. Most do these for their refrigerators, but you may want to try. Hope l was of help.

Stop smoking in the house hun. Better if you quit. I'm sure that will help.
Believe it or not, and not to offend, you smell the same way. Smoke goes deep into your fabrics and your skin. That smell your trying to get rid of, is killing you, and everyone around you.
Get rid of the cigarettes.

SCD Odor Away. natural enzyme that eats the compounds that cause the odor in the first place. fabreeze doesnt work.i tried it to get old smoke smell out of my couch. it smelled like fabreeze for a while, but it just ended up smelling like feet in the end.sad story. but odor away works for everything- shoes/catboxes/mold smells, etc.
