I'm in a short story club, and October is my month to contribute a story for us all to read. I thought it would be fun to have a scary story or a ghost story, but most of the ones I find are too short. It doesn't matter if it's fiction or nonfiction. Thanks!

Check out stories by H.P. Lovecraft. They tend to be about that length and he's one of the best horror writers.

The idea of checking out an Urban Legend is great. Another option is Stephen King. He wrote a book of short stories that will make your skin crawl. The entire collection is in one book, just can't remember the title. Bet you could find it easily on amazon.com.

How about "The Tell-Tale Heart" or "The Pit and the Pendulum" by Edgar Allan Poe? I think "The Fall of the House of Usher" is longer than you're looking for, and is a bot wordier.

take a glance on the 2008 Novel and short tale Writers marketplace (Writers Digest Books, 2007)--it quite is a stable commencing component for who accepts what, what format the checklist would desire to be in, and so on. maximum public libraries could have a replica, or only take a glance at your community e book place.

My favorite is the "Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe. It might be long enough.
