how come "fine" roller ball pens are not very fine at all?

They are way tooo thick.!

There has been an inflation in language, a sort of adjective sweepstakes cooked up by manufacturers of pens, where we now have categories like ultrafine, superfine, maxifine and microfine.

If you want fine, try something a little more hyperbolically named than just fine.
