Hezbollah[1](Arabic: حزب الله‎ ḥizbu-llāh,[2] meaning “party of God”) is a Shia Islamist organization in Lebanon. It follows a distinct version of Islamic Shia ideology developed by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.[3][4] The organization began to take shape during the 1982 Lebanon War; on February 16, 1985 Sheik Ibrahim al-Amin publicly declared the group's manifesto, which included three goals: the eradication of Western imperialism in Lebanon, the transformation of Lebanon's multi-confessional state into an Islamic state, and the complete destruction of the state of Israel.[5]. [6] Hezbollah has abandoned the goal of transforming Lebanon into an Islamic republic [7], but continues to call for the destruction of Israel. Hezbollah has received arms, soldiers, and financial support from Iran, and many other sympathizers [8] and has "operated with Syria's blessing."[7] Hezbollah has grown to an organization which has seats in the Lebanese government, a militia, a radio and a satellite television station, and programs for social development. [9] Hezbollah's use of violent means to achieve some of their goals has caused some to label it as a terrorist organization, while others consider the violence to have been recriprocal to external aggression and a legitimate form of Jihad.

Since 1992, the current leader and Secretary-General of Hezbollah is Sheikh Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

The Party of God.

I think this link may answer your question in a rather more satisfactory and perhaps less biased fashion.

It is a BBC link, so make of it what you will, keep an open mind of course, but it is, I feel, less likely to be tainted with hatred and false information than some media sources. The american media has a tendency to expand upon things somewhat, to further, one would assume, it`s own agenda by influencing public opinion to create a strong anti-Islam bias amongst its subjects, thereby validating in the public mind its support of certain groups and it`s continuing wars in the Middle-East.

We all need to find the truth, by definition, it is all that exists.

They are a group of radical Shi'a theocratic militants, created by Iran's Ayatollah Khomenei in the early 1980s with the express intennt of fighting Israel and subjugating the Maronite Christian population in Lebanon. They were the most sucessful example of Iran's "export Isalmic Revolution" theory. Prior to 9/11 they were responsible for more deaths by terror than any othere terrorist organization, examples being attacks into Israel, murder of Lebanese Christian leaders, the Beiruit barracks bombing that killed over 200 Americans, the kidnapping and murder of dozens of forign civilians, and the attack on the Khobar towers in Saudi.
