Like they are just using you as a sounding board? That kills me, I just had a client do that. Glad I could be of assistance!

Not really, but I've talked with several engineers in my job who want to explain the meaning of the universe with me.....or at least the meaning of their universe......yikes!!!

Ah, you've had a close encounter with a narcissist..well, you can't get too close, they tend to take up all the space in a room and squash everyone else into corners.
Did the client keep asking, "Is it hot in here?" And then answering themselves, "Yes, of course, it must be hot in here." They are perpetually overdressed because they're all wrapped up in themselves.

Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

Bugs the crap out of me. If you're asking me a question, I assume you need help with the answer.

I did phone support for about 10 years or so and used to say (nicely) to people who were like that if they need my help they can call me back when they're ready.

One of those Myers-Briggs personalities talks about this...certain personalities need to sound things out to another person as a way to talk things through for themselves and just want reassurance from another ear to say "yeah, that sounds about right."

I am like the opposite of that person. If I ask you a question it's because I've exhausted all of my resources and I don't even want to talk about what I've done so far because you should just take it at face value that I've done all of the normal stuff so it's your turn to pull out the genius moves. :)

This just happened to me about 5 minutes ago. Damn clients just need to hear themselves explain a problem to solve it. I honestly felt dumber after I hung up the phone.

Rum Shots pal!

I think we are all like that to a certain extent. we ask a ?n, but then we are prepaired to give our own opinion about it. call it being insecure or conceited and wanting to hear how smart (or funny, or even dumb sometimes etc) we actually sound...but it's just what we are sometimes. but it does piss me off when people do it ONLY TO HEAR THEIR OWN opinion, not even listening to urs. but at the same time, i just know that they are the ones who got issues. it's just one of the solutions to their problems.

Have you ever talked with someone that just seems to answer all of their own questions?

some people use asking questions to open a conversation to present their views

with these people you have to figure out clever ways to keep the conversation going the way it would without the questions
