Absolutely, I think that psychology is a useful tool in understanding why people act or think the way that they do. I think there are definitely flaws in psychology and there have been faulty experiments, theories, etc. But even the failed attempts at understanding the human mind helps in ultimately understanding what makes everyone tick.

Psychology is a scientific attempt to classify pattern of minds responses to situation, both inside and outside of a person.
Understanding other people is more dependent on the capacity to keenly observe, or the level of perception. Even a person who is illiterate , and has no idea about what is the word called "psychology" , may be very good at understanding others , simply because he has evolved his perception levels much deeper than common people around. When the learned do not understand this perception, they try to classify it as intuition, mind reading, ESP etc... !

i think to an extent, yes, but the problem is is that most people don't want to be analyzed, they want to be heard. the best way to understand someone else is to talk to them. then you;ll find out what they want you to know and if you know a little psychology you might be able to find out more. most people like to keep some private thoughts to themselves and i believe that using psychoilogy on unwilling people is a violation of their privacy.

Yes it is. If you can see through a person's actions and not what they say then you can be more compassionate. If someone is horrible to you at work you may just write them off. In reality, they may have interpreted something you did differently, have a bad upbringing, or are going through a rough time in their life. Not all actions are easy to understand, you need to know the emotions behind them.

Psychology can be useful - but, as Alexander Pope wrote:
"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing . . ."
Unless someone delves deeply into psychology, there's considerable danger that he/she will make evaluations based on a superficial grasp of the concepts of psychology.
An "armchair psychologist" (one who acquires his/her knowledge haphazardly) can be as hazardous and mistaken as a person who has taught him/herself surgery.

yeah it does to an extent, but then again since its very subjective, its a lil diff to figure out what a person feels at any time, let alone understand them.
