I would suggest you start by looking his name, location or something like that in social network sites like myspace, friendster, etc.
Then, when you have a name, a place where he/she lives or something like that you can look it up in google or google images.

billions of people all over the world have a myspace acct, you could log into myspace and enter the email address as a search option and see if this person has an acct with myspace.

as far as i believe it would be very difficult to do. the reason for this is email addresses are not in a directory form ie you could not match up email address to email owner by name search etc.
however if it is of a serious nature then you can contact ther revevant authorities.
