The Russians lost 25 million people to Hitler in order to win WW2 for us. They came at Hitler from the east and gave the British Empire a chance to push into them because they were now fully engadged with Russia.
After the war Stalin who grabed most of the land in Europe dictated a lot of the post war Europe .
This scared the pants off the US and so in a paraniod hush they began to see commie's under every bed.
This made a lot of good movies for the Yanks and shaped a lot of thier non isolationist culture post ww2.
When communisim fell - they started worrying about the Arabs .....
No no really the cold war was when there was a nasty strain of the cold going around and Dr's armed with needles filled with anti biotics got angry and decleared war. hence it is the cold war ....
No no that wasn't it either - an American went tosee Santa Claus up in the north pole he got very cold and created global warming - declareing war on the cold in order to heat up Santa's home in hopes he would get better presents as he already explained he had plenty of socks and sweaters
No no that wasn't it either Ok this time the real truth of the cold war ok I promise Mr John Thomas had a wife who was frigid . he thought he was all alone in this until he learned that over 45% of the guys at work also had frigid wives He declared war on cold wives which was shortened down to the cold war. He declared a partial sucess and an end to the war with the establishment of leagalised prostitution in the state of Nevada where we understand he now lives ......Although he now spends a lot of time buying cream for his "extremities" he is said to be happy with the conclusion and vitory over the cold wives of America ....
And there you have it the cold war how it got started the people involved and how it was eventually won by one great man with a vision and a condom (which he really should have used )

Ahhh the cold war began after World War II. When Russia and the United States began fighting over who was the best in the world, actually both were the best in thier own right. It really boiled down to two belief systems, communism vs. captiolism. We fought major conflicts in minor countries, but we were really fighting the Russins by proxy. Vietnam, Korea, the Cuban Crisis, just to name a few. It brought out both the best and the worst of both countries really.
Some of the good things that came out of it was the "rush for space" which we now have an international space station because of it, and many satellites, telescopes and wonderful space programs. Also some could argue that the computers came about because of the cold war, the internet is a product of the cold war (it was a military invention to prevent the collapse of communications if a nuclear attack should happen, sad but true). GPS is a product of cold war, it was first used to "track the enemy".
I was in high school when Regan was in office so I remember his presidency well. I remember the Iran/contra fisaco, I remember the Berlin wall coming down, I remember most of the cold war of the 70's and 80's, and how several times we came mighty close to going bye bye. The biggest point of the whole Cold War ending, and this is only my opinon guys, is when the Pope John Paul II, Regan and Gorbie all met together and had talks of peace. I miss Gorbie, he did a lot for his country and for the world for that matter, I'm a proud American but my heart goes out to him though. Some would argue it was the speach that Regan gave at the Berlin Wall before it came crashing down, and thats ok too. Any way, I'm very glad that we are no longer at "odds" with Russia and have open talks with them.

The Cold War (c. 1945-1990) was the conflict between the two groups, loosely categorised as the West (the United States and its North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies) and the East (the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies - loosely described as the Eastern Bloc). A full-scale "east versus west" war never actually broke out, hence the metaphor of a "cold" war with a predilection for quashing armed conflicts to prevent a "hot" and escalating shooting war whenever possible. Indeed, a good show was made on both sides that the conflict was primarily about economic, philosophic, cultural, social, and political ideology. The West criticised the East as embodying undemocratic totalitarianism and communist dictatorship while the East criticised the West as promoting bourgeois capitalism and imperialism. The attitude of both sides towards the other was summed up in the phrases used against each other; the East accused the West of promoting "middle class capitalism and imperialism that sidelined workers" while the West in the 1980s called the East the "evil empire" intent on subverting democracy for communist ideology.

It was the constant tension between US and the then USSR. It started soon after WWII. There were moments world gasped for breath when both nuclear giants were ready to destroy each other during the Cuban missile crisis.Inter Alia we had the Korean war and the Vietnam. Cheap USSR weapons always found their way where ever US were involved in conflicts. The latest was the USSR's march in to Afghanistan and the genesis of Taliban. Then we had the literal Trojan horse in the statesman Gorbachev who was singularly responsible for breaking up of USSR. In any case it had to happen some day. Today the world is uni-polar and we are already witnessing the results. US expedition in to Iraq. US too has now realized the folly of going it alone with great repercussions of body bags reaching home in large numbers. We only hope that the next government that comes to power in US should address terrorism in ther long term, withdrawal from never ending wars and the problem of economy and a large national debt of 65 trillion.

The bloodless warfare is misnamed. There are many unique strategies of what a bloodless warfare is adding a confrontation, many small skirmishes world wide, a warfare that no one spotted, no direct combating among 2 high-quality powers. In truth, extra men and women died within the Cold War than in WW1 and WW2. Also, the Cold War has no constant opening, center or finish. It simply turns out to rumble on. For nations wherein armies and gigantic scale promoting of armaments are integral for the economic climate, the Cold War is tremendous industry (bringing up no names however rearrange SUA!)

The Cold War was the sign that the military industrial security complex had taken over our country. One year, the brave soldiers of the USSR fought at our side, took most of the casualities, and freed Europe with us. A few years later, we were being told they would invade and eat our children. DUCK AND COVER.
There were two purposes to the cold war. One was to prevent communism from working and the other, the main one really, was to funnel billions of dollars to the weapons manufacturers. Most people were repeatedly brainwashed about the 'red scare' and went unthinkingly along with basically the destruction of liberty, sound spending on the people's needs, and our founder's stated purpose to have no alliances or enmities with foreign powers.
The cold war was a huge game to the people at the top. RUssia and America fought each other by proxy through other nations. These battles are ignored, as they are hot wars, and the war of words, sanctions, diplomatic moves was the 'cold war.'
It ended because russia went broke and their oppressed folks rose up. Our oppressed folks are anesthitized.

During the second world war The Soviet union was called upon to be the ally of England and united States,So Winston Churchill and President Roosevelt met Stalin in the Island of Yalta,Where both of them agreed to give Eastern Europe to soviet Union as the Spoils of war after the Victory day.Soviets lost about 25 million and won the war by defeating Hitler. But Winston Churchill did not like the idea of Soviets taking the Eastern Europe. He came to USA and ad viced then President Truman of USA to again become enemy of the Soviet Union and the cold war started by the comment of Winston Churchill. Both side had an arm race unequaled in the history of mankind.we cannot say the war was absolutely COLD .There were Proxy wars like Korean war and Vietnam war and many covert operations. Many innocent people lost lives also in central America ,Indonesia,Cambodia and in many other countries. But the positive side of the war was that lot of advancement in the field of science,Aviation and space Exploration Telecommunication Medicine and many other fields .which benefited the Mankind as a whole very much.
The bad aspect was a lot of people lost their lives, more deadly weapons and atomic bombs were made including biological weapons. The west won the war after Gorbachev agreed to free the Eastern Europe.West was reportedly spending 50 billion dollars a year to conduct covert operations and bribe the Soviet bureaucracy.
