The best remedy I know of for IBS is Peppermint Plus by Enzymatic Therapy.
Probiotics help too.

Some people have reported temporary relief with colon cleansing, but then their symptoms inevitably come back, sometimes worse. You need to maintain a healthy level of good bacteria in your colon, in order to keep the harmful bacteria, yeast, and other nasties under control. The good bacteria are also necessary for digestion, breaking down nutrients into usable form. A colon cleanse is likely to kill off the good with the bad, and that gives the hardier nasties a chance to take over. Rather than the quick-fix, try taking probiotics - supplements containing the good bacteria. You need to use a good brand, because the cheap ones rarely live up to their promises. Recommended brands around my IBS message board are Digestive Advantage -IBS (not very expensive and easy to find at drug stores), culturelle & Kirkman Labs (more expensive, available online), Trader Joe's store brand. If you can't find those, look for one with *at least* a bilion units (CFU's).

Colon cleansing has NEVER been shown to have any benefit for IBS. There is no such thing as a "good" colon cleanser. The whole idea is laughable. You will have better luck with probiotics, which actually HAVE helped some people in clinical studies.

You should put your effort toward finding a diet that helps overcome your problem overall. If you add fiber on a daily basis, and probiotics, you may see some lasting effects. A cleanse or temporary treatment will give you temporary improvement at best or a flare of your problem.

Try to find a fiber that is comfortable for you and something you like. I have found that avoiding high fructose corn syrup is helpful.

I had IBS and found colon cleansing to be a complete waste of time because it is merely a bandaid. I have since found a product that is full of antioxidants, phytonutrients, flavenoids and polysaccharides. What this did was change my blood from acidic to alkaline and I no longer experience any IBS problems at all. IBS is an auto-immune disfunction and you need to eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables, consume as much water as you can tolerate and add all the necessary vitamins to maintain optimal health.

Chances are if it does help it will only be very short lived. We use Fleet Phosphosoda in our office for bowel cleansing.

No.. it won't help, but you may enjoy getting the cheap thrill anyhow.

The best colon cleansing product on the market is still a broom stick with a live canary stapled to the end of it.
