the solvation of the ions is exothermic because it gives off heat meaning the reaction of one molecule helps solvate the rest

Again, it's been a long time since I took chemistry, but I thought I'd answer in different terms here...just because it's fun. There is a tendency for things to go into a state that is takes less enegery (called entropy), since this is the form that is most stable. If the product has less energy, obviously the reaction has released energy. For an endothermic reaction, energy would need to be added to produce the final product. Think of a ball on an uneven surface - the ball, if no energy acts on it to do otherwise, will tend to roll toward the lowest point on that surface, where it requires the least energy to remain there.

Its Exothermic because bonds are broken. Typically when bonds are broken and not refromed in some way the reaction is exothermic. If Bonds are created to make the final product than ususally it is endo

Sodium Hydroxide is exothermic because :-
We know water is dipole. These molecules react with NaOH molecules to break the bonds of NaOH which is a higly exothermic reaction.
