you know, in light of this innapropriate behavior by the congressman and him emailing sexually explicit and innapropriate things to those pages, since when did it become a democrat or republican problem.? this has nothing to do with politics and he should not be dealt with as a politician. he(allegedly) is a sick man like so many others who pray on young children to fullfill their sick sexual fantasies. he should be dealt with as a pedophile and go to prison. even though these charges are alleged, you have to wonder why someone would all of the sudden just quit their job. if you were innocent of the charges, why would you not want to fight to preserve your good name. this leads me to beleive that he knew he was guilty and quickly took the easy way out. if found to be true he should be imprisoned and made to apologize publicly infront of congress. what is america coming to?

You are saying he should be treated as any other person would but then you say he should have to apologize in front of Congress...

It is becoming a political problem because it makes the Republicans look bad. He was a Republican representative and is representing them awfully. It is close to election time and is being used to make people look closer at their elected officials.

He is a criminal that should be treated that way...he should have a trial and if found guilty he should be given the maximum.

The reason it has become a political issue is the possibility that House leadership (in this case republican) may have been aware of the problem for up to a year but kept the information quiet so as to not impact elections this year. If that is the case it certainly would create serious questions. Both parties seem to be more interested in party than country. Unfortunately, most US citizens seem to be echoing this.

It should be a nonpartisan problem, of course, within the Senate. But within the Republican Party, it is a Republican problem, because it's _their_ group. Congress as a group can certainly do something about this problem, but Democrats as a group can't do as much as Republicans as a group (and not as Congressmen and women) can do, because they are on the outside in that way.

For instance, all Americans were shocked and horrified by the child molestation scandals in the Catholic Church. As Americans, we can conduct investigations into those allegations and make sure we teach our children about things like "bad touch". However, it is up to the Church itself to issue apologies and conduct investigations into why this was swept under the rug.

It's neither a Republican or Democratic problem.

What is a Republican problem is that they were aware of it for six months and did nothing.

Remember, that in and of itself is a crime. If you KNOW for a fact that a child is being preyed upon and don't report it, you've committed a crime. In nearly all 50 states, that is the law. Thus, all of these people who failed to report this to the authorities are guilty.

It just so happens they were Republicans. So it isn't really a Democrat / Republican thing - it's just that Republicans are the ones who screwed this up.

It's neither a democrat or republican problem, it's a people problem, but I'm glad these so called conservatist are getting busted. They act like holier than thou, crticize gay marriages, but yet commit adultery and other crimes. This country is falling apart with so many pedophiles and predators. It's a shame our children are growing up in such a screwed up world. What we need is a new leader in this country, who is going to take charge and clean up this mess, no matter if he's democrat or republic, as long as he's real.

It is only a democrat problem because repuglicans run on purity, they claim to be christian just to get votes and this is a good example to show that repuke's are human and make mistakes too. You are right about the prison part, if found guilty. Nobody likes a pedophile, from either party.

the reason it has become a problem is because th GOP has set itself up as the party of God...the Christian party, the moral party and has painted the Democrats as immoral overly sexual, baby-killers and pro-homosexuality.
Now, when a Republican gets caught doin the do with an underage boy and a Congressional Page at that...the GOP looks a teensy bit hypocritical, don't you think?

The problem has nothing to do with politics, gender, race, or religion. The guy is a crook and should be dealt with as such. I'm surprised he didn't bring out the "I was doing research" defense.
