McLaren used to use TAG engines in the between 1984 and '87, and these were built by Porsche.
The Company just don't want to be in F1, and with their success in GT racing over the last few decades, who can blame them?!

Not never, just now. Porsche has participated in F1 in 1961 and in 1962 (a flat-eight powered 804 brought Porsche's only win as a constructor in a championship race, claimed by Dan Gurney at the 1962 French Grand Prix). Porsche retired from F1 due to the high costs and lack of success. Privateers continued to enter out-dated Porsche 718 in F1 until 1964.
They returned again in 1983 but only supplying engines badged as TAG units for the McLaren Team.
Another return to F1 was in 1991 as an engine supplier, however it was with disastrous results. So that ended Porsche's participation in Formula One - at least for now.

Porsche built the TAG V6, 1.5L, turbo charged engine for McLaren which raced briefly in 1983, won the drivers and constructors cup in 1984 and 1985, the drivers title in 1986 and won a few races in 1987 before being retired.
Porsche then made a brief come back in the late 80s, early 90s with a bulky, under powered V12 and did terribly! They have since not returned....

Porsche used to race F1. Their main driver was Jo Bonnier. They quit back in the 1960's to devote their racing budget to the Manufacturer's Cup (Daytona, Le Mans, etc).

My guess would be they don't see any advantage in making F1 engines.
