Not only men hide their emotions. I know a couple of females who would give men a run for their money in that aspect. And the reason they do it is emotions can be a sign of weakness depending on the situation. How many people want to be told "stop being so emotional, get a grip, crying is for babies?" Thats universal for men and women, its just more acceptable for women to show it.

I have a theory that maybe men have developed to be non-emotional over the past centuries, because life hasn't required that off men. e.g. women staying home with children, growing attatchment and nurture etc. Men working in jobs which require non-emotional attatchment.
this is all generalisation ofcourse, men can be emotional ofcourse. I don't know if you've heard this before, but it is thought that if you are very skilled in logical things, often you will lack in emotional areas and vice versa. How true that is I do not know. I guess no ones gonna give a factual answer to this only maybe opinions and theories.

some men hide there emotions ....but some only hide there emotions with people they don't too well I am not afraid to show my wife my emotions she knows me so well any way I could not hide my feelings if i wanted to she can read my mind and emotions better than a mom can read her kids!!! we are soul mates so I share how i feel with her! I just don't cry if I can't change the situation I just except it no reason to cry about it! but I would cry at a funeral! of my loved one! my Dad cried and my wife's Dad cried so some men are strong enough to show there emotions yea I said strong enough to show emotion I think if a man is week he will not show his emotions only a strong man will show his true emotions!!!

It's cultural. Men are taught to be strong and not show emotions because many feel it's a sign of weakness... It's not like that everywhere. I've had the opportunity to travel to many places. There are lots of places in the world where men are sensitive and in touch with their emotions.

Men don't have to hide them. Men are more able to just ignore their emotions and do the job than women. Women's emotions tend to be stronger than men's.
We are born that way and balance each other out.
Generalities of course as there are exceptions..

at present, oftentimes no. some an prolonged time in the past, it became the final view (particularly here in the united kingdom) that men would desire to have a "stiff top lip" and shop their thoughts hidden, yet cases have fortuitously replaced. in spite of this, i've got considered some men take that to extremes and initiate up crying and panicking over the smallest issues. Rightly or wrongly, i might say there remains a conventional view that it quite is extra ideal for a woman to get emotional than a guy, particularly whilst it incorporates extra trivial issues. As with maximum of alternative issues in existence, i assume there isn't a strict "particular or no" answer; it quite does remember on the guy, the folk around them and the placement.

Because they are conditioned to think that it's not macho to show too much emotion, particularly to cry. However, even if they try not to cry in front of other people, there are other ways of showing emotions -- shouting, banging things about, smashing things, hooting at other drivers when behind the steering wheel, showing affection, playfulness, aversion... men do show their emotions, all right, but just not in the same ways that women do.

'Some' men do just as 'some' women do, but not all, i think your stereotyping is a bit unfair. Do you mean why does a man in particular that you know hide his emotions? Why not tell us some details and we might be able to help.

Men don't feel that it is masculine. They may have been brought up in a home where the father shinned down on this type of expression. Or they have been really hurt before and now won't let there guard down.
