things like your birthday, anniversary, or things that your interested in? without sounding whiney, and downplaying your own feelings to suit what they want.

On your next birthday, pack an overnight bag, book a hotel and leave for the night. When he wonders where you are, you can tell him that you decided to spend a night away to celebrate your birthday, with or without him. Since he cares so little to acknowledge your birthday, you decided to stay in a nice hotel, order room service, etc. and have a nice time without him. Tell him that you wanted to be by yourself and did not want to cry in front of him because he forgot yet again, because you're tired of being called whiney, etc. Maybe once he sees that he's been so rude and insensitive that it's actually driven you to leave the house without even telling him, he'll get the picture.

Have you tried getting excited before your bday and talking about it? Being like "Yay! 2 weeks til my birthday!" and then "1 week!" "3 days!" etc. right up until the actual day. Don't say anything about forgetting and don't downplay. Just act slightly excited.

Maybe you need to have a talk with them. Tell them very nicely, and try not to yell, that these days are important to you and it would mean a lot to you if he could just acknowledge those days. (Even if he forgets to buy a present, maybe he could at least come up to you and tell you happy birthday in a sweet way and give you a nice kiss and offer to take you out to dinner, or dessert or just watch your favorite tv show together without distractions). Although presents are nice to recieve on time, but it's really the though that counts.

You also may want to give them reminders, verbally like I suggested earlier, or by getting them a calendar, or emailing them, or sending them text messages. Whatever works for them.

Is he actually forgetting or just blowing you off. My husband is a very forgetful man unless we are talking about his job. He has to write himself emails to remember some things. If you think he might just be "forgetful" ask him. If he is choosing not to acknowledge, Leave his aaaas!!!

get used to it or get over it. Men will not change when they see nothing wrong with their own behavior. so if its that bad, move out. If not call him a jerk and make him cook dinner.

Get over it. They're never going to change, so you have to change.
