The big money for most photographers is weddings, so don't ignore this particular gravy train. You should volunteer to shoot a couple of friends' weddings, perhaps taking payment to just cover your expenses. Do a great job and ask to use your friends as references. Then advertise that you do wedding photography. It can be very lucrative and it's a great way to get started.
Look up conventions and exhibitions in your area. Contact trade magazines that cover the industries for these conventions and see if any would like to buy photographs that you take at these trade shows. I routinely attend a big convention in Las Vegas called the National Association of Broadcasters and I take a couple hundred pictures of people looking at equipment and talking to each other. This past April, I made more than $1,000 from these pictures. It is hard work, however. You must get people's names and titles, as well as the model number and description of the device they're looking at. You can see an example of such a photograph at the link below. I got both peoples' names and I also wrote down the model number of the batteries they are holding. I love doing this work but it is not as easy as pointing a camera and taking a picture.

You want suggestions for a photograpy related business that don't include being a photographer? That really limits the possibilities. One option would be a photo editor. Many photographers outsource the photo processing, touch-up work to other companies. You would need to spend a lot of time learning photoshop/lightroom.

Do you have a portfolio? Even if you just take photos of friends and family for free, to show off your talents? Do you have business cards yet? A phone number in the Yellow Pages? And a display ad in the paper doesn't hurt at all, doesn't have to be huge.
Once your friends and family see their photos and quality, they'll help "pimp" you around to their friends. Give them a handful of business cards to hand out.

Start doing it online with low or no cash investments. You can create your own websites or blogs @ blogger.com and earn money. If you can type, you can make money.
You may make money by publishing Google Adsense on your websites.
If you have a website or a web-blog, you could make money by publishing advertisements on your site (by google). If someone clicks on those ads, you will earn money.
If you don't have a website, you may start creating web-blogs like blogger.com (mostly free) with advertisements (google ads) on it. Some free websites don't allow you to publish google adsense becaus they are doing it themself.
