The reason why Wembley Stadium is not ready and has not been ready, is because the Irish lost at the Spring Meeting at Cheltenham this year and in order to get their money back and gain a profit, they stopped work at Wembley Stadium [slowed down to a crawl] to ensure their ''it will not open on time bet'' won. It's called the betting in Eire, at least that's what my Irish builder says it is.

The last time I went there it seems the works are almost nearing a completion stage.

Here are a few Wembley Stadium Facts and Figures

♠ The Wembley Satium Arch is 133 metres above the level of the external concourse.
♠ The Arch is made of British steel, supplied by Corus
♠ The stadium roof rises to 52 metres above the pitch. This compares to the 35 metres tall Twin Towers of the old Wembley stadium
♠ 4,000 separate piles will form the foundations of the new Wembley stadium. The deepest of these, at 35 metres, is as deep as the Twin Towers were tall!
♠ With a span of 315 Metres, the arch will be the longest single span roof structure in the world.
♠ Each of the two giant screens in the new Wembley stadium is the size of 600 domestic television sets.
♠ There will be 2,618 toilets - which WNSL (wembley national stadium limited) estimate is more than any other stadium in the world.
♠ There is more leg room in EVERY seat in the new Wembley Stadium than there was in the Royal Box of the old stadium.
WEMBLEY PROGRESS UPDATE
In relation to the Wembley Stadium project, Multiplex advises the following progress highlights:

• The pitch and all associated works are complete.

• All precast concrete terracing to the stadium bowl has been installed.

• Approximately 70,000 of 90,000 seats are in place.

• All structural steelwork has now been completed and final painting works are in progress.

• The south roof is complete (save minor works), with the north roof following in mid-July.

• Fitout works and decorating continue throughout the stadium (refer to the site photographs attached).

• System commissioning continues throughout the stadium.

• Furniture, fittings and equipment deliveries to finished areas have now commenced.

• Demobilisation of workforce amenities has commenced within the site boundary.

In addition Multiplex advises:

• A judgment handed down by the English High Court on 05 June 2006 found in Multiplex’s favour on the key issues claimed against its former steel subcontractor Cleveland Bridge (CBUK) and we anticipate a substantial payment from CBUK to ultimately be awarded by the Court. Refer to the previous ASX Announcement dated 06 June 2006.

• Multiplex remains confident that substantial completion will be achieved in July 2006 sufficient to enable us to achieve practical completion of our works at the end of September 2006.

• In order to achieve practical completion of Wembley Stadium certain works which are the responsibility of WNSL rather than Multiplex must first be completed; WNSL has not begun some of these works. Furthermore, once Practical Completion has been achieved, it is the responsibility of WNSL to carry out a series of critical works and activities in order to make the stadium operational for events. The timing and hosting of the first event is therefore entirely a matter for WNSL. Multiplex is of the view that the works for which WNSL is responsible may not finish by September 2006 and therefore the date of Practical Completion may be delayed. Such a delay should have no impact on Multiplex’s project loss position

• Multiplex has formally claimed from WNSL lengthy extensions of time under the terms of its construction contract which will in effect extend the contract completion date. Multiplex has advised WNSL of extensions of time to October 2007.

• No adjustments to the market guidance for Multiplex Group full year 2006 earnings flow from this Update.

You've kind of answered your own question. I doubt it will be ready before 2010. Anyway who needs it now. I think that it is great that other stadiums are being utilised around the UK instead of fans having to transport themselves to Wembley.
