Did anyone remember watching the Dateline special about the Florida woman who was charged with sleeping with her 13 year old student? What can we do to ensure that these women are treated equally under the law as criminals?

There is a perception that an adult man having sex with an underage woman is "damaging" her in some way (well, it IS statutory rape), but that the woman is doing an underage boy a "favor" by having sex with him.

But it's a crime - statutory rape - in each case.

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. This uneven handed hypocrisy stems from the fact that law enforcement and laws are written by men. And there people juxtapose their sisters and daughter into the position of the alleged victim. Because they see a bit of themselves in there. They do not want the thought of some older guy using their niece, sister, or daughter for sexual pleasure. With women they also have a bit of their opinion in there because as a teen nearly EVERY boy at some point wished to boink and older women with full t*i*ts etc. So there is a wink and a nod that the male kid got more of a treat. And women who do these things tend to look at it as more of a relationship with love then men.

Because it's one of the double standards that swings, surprisingly, in women's favor.

There is this thought that teenage boys are more horny and, thus, automatically want to screw their teachers (some do, but so do some girls). We've built this culture that men are sex-crazed beasts so obviously a pretty teacher wouldn't be coercing a student *rolls eyes* but giving him exactly what he wants.

What our soceity overlooks is that these are CHILDREN. These are the same people that freak out over a zit and change their outfits 5 times in the morning. They are not emotionally ready for a sexual relationship with their peers, much less an adult.

In situations like those, males are portrayed as these cruel, heartless, lowlife criminals, when females do the same thing, and they just are snapped by a couple of cameras, as they walk into the courtroom. It's ridiculous!

Because of esteriotypes, if it would have been a male who would have done this then he would have been a criminal
