my pontiac came with an anti-theft system. i have keyless entry but not the remote. how do i know if its the alarm system with the noise or if its just a flashing lights thing?

i have a 99 grand am gt with the theft deturant system and keyless entry-90% of the cars i know do not have a real alarm on them-just a beep and the headlights blink when you lock it-and also its got the lil red light on the factory sterio(some are on the dash now)the only thing ya got on the car is a panic button on the remote for it-that just honks the horn and blinks the headlights for 60 seconds or untill ya hit the button again-thats all-if you want a remote just tell a gm dealer your vin(vehicle identification number-long number with letters in it located on the far drivers side dash next to the windshield just incase ya dont know)and theyll give ya a remote for your car-its about $35 bucks-hope this helps ya
