What is balmorality? How did Queen Victoria fit this description?

I see that allyuwante, one of your answerers, defines this term as "a superficial enthusiasm for Scottish culture." This is the first time I've ever heard the term "balmorality."

Well, Queen Victoria did purchase the estate of Balmoral in Scotland (I think because Prince Albert liked the area because it reminded him of his native Coburg, in Germany), and did have a liking for things Scottish--but I don't think it went much below the surface.

Victoria wasn't really the most studious of people, and I don't think she ever "got into it" beyond dressing in tartan, learning some of the folk dances, and being charmed by the outspokenness of the Scots. She probably became familiar with well-known legends and folklore, but I doubt that she ever made any real effort to learn the factual history of the country or the culture.
