Buy now. Microsoft are not known for bug-free operating systems. I'd wait at least a year minimum before bothering with Vista, to let them sort out the main issues which we all know will arise.

As the others here have said, Vista will be far too buggy for at least the first 6 months from release. Service pack 3 for XP will be out in mid to late 2007 and there are a lot of features on the Microsoft website to mimic the Vista aeroglass desktop. if you get a PC with XP Home there will be an upgrade path to Vista, not the case with XP Pro and XP Pro 64 bit. Hold on a bit with Vista until the bugs are sorted out.

If you've used Windows for a long time, you would know that you shouldn't bother buying or upgrading Windows as soon as a new version comes out.
XP has been around for awhile, and after TWO service packs, Microsoft is STILL working out the bugs. If you buy a PC like a DELL, then you'll probably have Windows XP home installed on it already. Just use XP home.

Wait for Vista if you want to future-proof your purchase and don't need the new PC right now. The PC you want will probably become cheaper in the time you wait for it plus you'll get the new OS with it. It may have bugs in it, but there will be fixes for it free from Microsoft eventually.

Vista won't be on general sale (in the UK) for consumer PCs until early 2007 I believe. XP will continue to be supported for many years to come.

Although Vista has supposedly undergone extensive pre-release testing, its reasonable to expect there will be some issues with the first release as there nearly always is with first releases of software.

I would buy now with XP. There'll be an upgrade path to Vista.

Buy now and wait till vista is released then upgrade, simple job anyone could do. I have read about the vista and ok its new but and a tiny bit better than Windoes® XP® professional® but wait till the price has come down before betting upgrading.

Windows Vista is just another way of screwing folks out of money cuz Gates wants more to fill his retirement bed with.
Honestly anyone who knows anything about computers is saving the money and going with Linux, but if you wish to remain back in the early days of computers while everyone else moves on then don't waist any more money than you have to, go buy a comp now and get whatever windows is available, you can always upgrade later if you feel like your money is burning a hole in your pocket and you just have to donate it too Gates.

If you have a need for it for a certain task then buy it now, otherwise you can hold off but be warned Vista requirement sounds heavy.

I don't consider gaming as a need for it. But if you don't have enough budget to go for enough Vista performance you won't want to move to Vista just yet.

receive the Beta for homestead windows 7 off of Limewire...(you'll locate activation codes everywhere) and look ahead to 7 to come back out...even the Beta for homestead windows 7 is extra perfect than Vista! once you're up for switching use Ubuntu Linux!
