The virus is keeping me from going online. When I try to log on to the internet it says it detects no phone line, which is not true, so I tried to do a system restore but the virus doesn't let me do that now also. I'm not sure what to do, do I to have to take it somewhere to get the virus out, or is there a way around this?

try starting the computer in safe mode.
start the computer, tap f8 while it's booting then select safe mode and then try scanning for viruses there.

you may want to go to a different computer first, then go to the virus companies site, download the latest definitions (update) and burn it to a cd and then bring it to your computer and install it, then re-scan.

I would try to scan for the virus first. If that doesn't work, then you might be able to do a system recovery, you will lose everything on the computer, so that's up to you. But, before you do that you should shut unplug the internet from the computer because most viruses use the internet. Especially trojan horses. Then I would go to someone and ask them if they could do a computer sweep which wont remove everything, Worst comes to worst you could recover your computer or you could take it to someone who will wipe it for you and reinstall any essential programs that you had on there. Ex. Microsoft Word.

You did not say what the virus was- did it have a name?
Install your antivirus software and run it see what it comes up with . if the virus software is new and up to date it will find it.
If it finds any remove it. then go online and have your virus software updated.

It could be that you have spyware on your computer if so you need a decent spy checker like spysweeper or bug doctor here a three sites for you

I haven't tried any of the free AV software, but perhaps you can try this:
Get a friend to download free AV and anti-spy software and burn it to a CD (or use a jump drive). Then install the software on your computer and run it.
Once the virus/trojan is taken care of, you can uninstall the software and install the new one.

Did you try an antivirus like AVG? (that's free) If that would not paintings remove the files both onto a flash rigidity or burn them onto a DVD and reinstall homestead windows. you won't be able to wipe a computer without setting up a sparkling replica of the operating equipment so your perfect guess is to attempt the antivirus first. i don't understand why you would possibly want to purchase a sparkling processor because it received't restore your concern. best of luck.
