An pap smear with abnormal results can also be HPV. If you have had unprotected sexual contact with someone who has it. Men usually do not show symptoms of it so it is almost impossible to know if he has it. The woman only knows she has it because of abnormal cells on her cervix. Usually if you have HPV your doctor wants to do a new pap every 4-6 months after they freeze/burn off the abnormal cells which if left untreated can cause cervical cancer. I included a website. Hope it helps.

I also had "slightly abnormal" cells after a pap smear but when I went back for my next test 6 months later it came back normal.
If you're really concerned talk to your doctor but sometimes the results of the next test will come back normal and you will have nothing to worry about.
If they are still abnormal the Doctor will discuss having them lanced off.

well, take this things serious, call the doctor again, ask about the abnormal cells and if you are not sure, do the test again. Any thing about your cervix is important. You have the right to know what those abnormal cells are.

Abnormal cells on a cervix can be caused from recent infection, virus or bacterial. You should call your doctor back and get clarification on those results. They know what those "abnormal" cells are.
