My computer will randomly shut off without any warning. It doesn't seem to matter if I am running software or not. At first it only happen once a week or so, but now I can barely get to my email before it turns off. Is this a virus? If so, how do I fight it?

More than likely it is overheating. Vacuum out all the dust bunnies and verify all the fans are working, including the all important CPU fan.

It may be because there are some viruses that are attacking your computer, but by protecting the computer, the computer would shut down and restart so the viruses could not harm the computer. The problem are the websites your probably going on, some of them have a lot of pop-ups and etc. which are harming your computer.

do u get any message like (I dont remember exactly): "remote procedure call failed" ?

If yes,
{
then it is a trojan. go to www.lavasoft.com to get the latest version of ad-aware, update defnition file and perform a full system scan. It is a free, most trusted anti-spyware software.
I believe it is the best anti-spyware/adware program.
Also try getting Norton anti-virus. Never go to any other anti-virus program. norton has a feature called "SCRIPT BLOCKING", it prevents many attacks, it is the easiest method of attacking a system, all others including avg,e-trust,etc dont have this feature which is very important. You dont believe if you dont have norton, your system can by infected even if you just visit any page. one such page is www.astalavista.com or www.astakiller.com .
Javascript is used to do such attacks. It goes like this:

var fso = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");

Using this, javascript can perform file handling (supported by IE 4.0 and above).

}

If not,
sorry, I cant answer this.

Your power supply might be going bad...you might also be overheating. Download and run SpeedFan to check your temps and voltages. Temp2 is usually your CPU temp.
