i would like to know what technology offers more storage and less cost, and what would be better for the future.

They are really all using same underlying EEPROM technology, just form-factor is different.

SD has too many variants but they all follow the same adapter circuitry.
SM is dead-ended.
Memory Stick/Pro: never liked them, and by the same token never liked Sony if they keep produce their own technology for themselves.
CF: big; but they are simpler and likely to bounce back for PDAs. Although they are cheaper to implement and will be the bleeding-edge type.

So SD and CF are winners.

I base my decision on the usefullness of the card. I use SD because I can use them in my camera, my handheld, and my computer interchangeably. The cost per mb seems similar for all.

all cards are of same technology...CF is the most cost effective but not very popular in point-and-shoot cameras...usage wise, SD card is the best since it has fairly good price and wide usability

SD - Secure Digital is faster then MMS and have a switcher to protect your data. I choose SD.
