Legal and basic human rights issues aside. Would a certification process for parenting reduce crime, poverty, and drug use? Should it be illegal for certified parents to divorce with exception of abuse?

Yes people should have a license to have kids but who's going to police that rule and how? Probably would help to control crime levels and poverty, not sure about drug use though. I think that when married couples don't get on with each other that then becomes a form of abuse for a child in the middle. People shouldn't be made to stay married if it's obvious that by doing so is going to harm the child psychologically, divorce for certified parents shouldn't be illegal.

It's a requirement to have a license to do many things in life, such as drive, practice certain professions, fish, hunt, ect. Why is it not required to be licensed to do the most important thing that a person will do in life: parenting a child? Yes, I think every parent-to-be should have to attend parenting classes in order to get a grasp on what's to come and future expectations from mommies and daddies to their child. It is a precious gift to be able to raise a child and there are many parents that think of it as a burden or inconvenience. Learning how to control your temper, discipline a child, and show love and respect to a child may not come natural to some people, especially when people come from different backgrounds and may not have been raised in ideal situations. It's time to break the cycle of abuse and neglect...let's teach new parents how to get the best out of their child-rearing years and allow children to grow up with the best experience possible so that as adults they may be productive in life and hopefully pass it along to their children.

we have to have certification for so many things nowadays that it follows parenting should too be regulated...but if you try and do that you miss a lot of great world citizens....some of the greatest minds exist because thier parents messed them up...my parents are both kinda screwed up...in fact more times than not i feel alot more mature than them...instead of implamenting such a system...why don't we fix the one already in place...instead of a quick fix....the signature of paper and then a bout of sex in the waiting room closet....why don't we educate the people that truely want or don't want kids...many pregnancies occur because the youth of today are not being nurture and cherished as they should...this is not solely the mother's role anymore..the man needs to be more of an active member of the family than traditionally expected....(in fact if believe that is the root of the problem...when women finallly broke thru the working world....then men just kept on acting like nothing had changed...they still bring home the bacon and the women have this hobby in between children) the america family needs to be redefined to fit todays' culture....as society is always moving and growing and changing...you have to be adaptable along with it...fix these root problems...fix the mindset of american people then you won't need the license...

I think so. Being entrusted with the care of a fragile human soul is the greatest responsibility a person can be entrusted with. It should not be left to incompetents and worse. And children having children...how can they cope with the responsibility?
Bad parenting can destroy souls.

Nature says no. Darwinism doesn't work so well for humans because our society protects idiots from themselves, and those are the ones who breed quickly before they kill themselves off. We also let them breed from jail.

well, some people should really get some kind of licence, problem is we would be like in Orwell"s book 1984....But I am getting your point, some people have kids and don't care about them, hurt them etc.....These kind of idiots should have no kids at all or like you said, let's give them a licence or some approval.Very smart question.
