Probably because they don't have to spend money on marketing the product, or having sales clerks to pay. No stocking fees to be paid out, etc. They save money so they pass the savings on to the consumer. If it is the same manufacturer then it would be the same quality merchandise.

If I have 5 stores, I have to carry inventory for all five stores. If I have an online store, I don't have to have as much inventory. I can ship my product to the buyer instead of having it available in the store.
Also, I don't have to pay as many employees, mortgages, or electric bills.

I suppose the whole cost of an organisation is much less with e-commerce. Hence the buyer receives the benefit.

To ship out to all your local stores, they need trucks to haul their products there, then your local stores need to pay someone to stock their shelves, need to pay register personel to work to sell it to you. This is all added into your local price.

maybe because the people selling them don't have to employ staff and pay for premises?
