I think there should be an investigation, but the subject of it should not be the Republican leadership which—like the newspaper which had the comparatively mild emails between Foley and a former page — could not investigate further because the parents of the 16 year old who had initiated the correspondence wanted to protect his privacy. These emails, which led to a warning to pages to keep a certain distance from Foley, were of a far different character than the explicit IM messages, which were only revealed to the House leadership after appearing in the press.

Once the House leadership was appraised of the incriminating messages, Foley was in effect cashiered out.

The important matter requiring investigation is how a recently-created anonymous blogger got the email correspondence which the boy’s parents had insisted be kept quiet. And how the blog site, which had virtually no posts and no traffic suddenly caught the attention of Foley’s opponent

Interestingly enough, that site, Stopsexualpredators.com, has, as of publication of this article, changed its content, dropping all the posts cited by me, Rick Moran of Rightwing Nuthouse, Just One Minute and other websites investigating the case. The domain name appears to have been taken over by someone new (hat tip: Rick Moran), quite possibly an attempt to cover the tracks of what appears to amount to a black ops blog, a phenomenon Hugh Hewitt warned of more than two years ago.

How it is that ABC ran with a story based on this blog when a year earlier even the BDS-afflicted Daily Kos rejected as improbable the story that Foley was a predatory troller of interns.

Is it at all believable that overnight after ABC broadcast and published the innocuous email correspondence it was suddenly sent years-old, salacious Instant Messages purportedly between Foley and men (identities not disclosed)? Why were these IM messages ready to be sent off and published at a moment’s notice.

Gee, didn't you notice, an election is coming up? That means the liberal press is looking for anything to smear Republicans and make the Demorats look like saints. Who do YOU think posted it? I'll bet you are right.

Wow...Even further defenses of a child predator.

Even the ABC story says after this broke additional former pages reported similar treatment by Foley. He's admitted to "being an alcoholic and seeking treatment for it and related behaviors." So, while not admitting that he's guilty, he basically has said he did it.

Foley will be punished for his wrong-doing (ironically under the tougher sentencing terms that he pushed through), but the bigger question is why Republican leadership kept this wrapped up for nearly a year even though they knew about it. The fact that they didn't inform the one Democrat who serves on the House Page Board is also really shady.

Is it election year politicking? Sure it is. But that's Foley's fault for providing ammunition.

It's similar to the race in my district where everyone is accusing the Democrat of dirty politics because he raised the fact that her opponent was arrested for beating his wife in 1991. Well, you know what? Don't beat your wife and then run for office. Politics is dirty and you can't keep a crime secret.

And after all, what we're talking about is a crime. Obviously Mr. Foley thinks it's a crime - he sponsored the bills that punished the very behaviors he exhibited.

It happened, he did it and there is no defense for it. Yes, the rat is Foley. Don't try and spin this into a Democrat versus Republican conspiracy. It isn't. It is a sick man whos behavior was reprehensible.

It would be preferrable if he hadn't and it could be proven that it was some kind of conspiracy but the man basically admitted it himself.

"I strongly believe that I am an alcoholic and have accepted the need for immediate treatment for alcoholism and other behavioral problems," Foley said in a statement released in Florida by his attorney, David Roth. "I deeply regret and accept full responsibility for the harm I have caused," Foley said in the statement."

What we shouldn't do is blame a political party for the actions of a man like this.

I will say this... there does appear to be a double standard. Where is all the disgust for how Clinton treated numerous women over the years? Where is the disgust for Byrd being a former member of the KKK? Where is the disgust for the part that Ted Kennedy played in the death of Mary Jo Kopechne?

These men are practically gods of the Democrat party.

Are you suggesting we support Foley because the "leaking" of information was done for political gain?

Honestly I do not give a crap about HOW the information was given or WHY the information was leaked. All I care about is that this pedophile be locked up.
