Sounds like it could be. Don't go to the hospital until you are sure this is the real thing (unless you live in a rural area and the hospital is a ways away). I stayed at home until I was 8cm, the hospital still gave me an epidural when I asked.

If they are 11 or 12 minites apart you have a long time for it's time to go. Just relax. Let us know if you have the baby!!!
You can tell they are Braxton hicks because they are usually low and irregular. They just come and go. No consistency. I know what you mean though, I have been wondering that too for the last few days. In the end there is no room left so it is hard to tell when it is just the baby or your uterus that is tight. The way I can tell for sure is run your hand all over your stomach and feel if it is tight everywhere or just in places. My stomach will get really tight from the baby up top, but when I feel really low it's not tight or hard at all. If you feel tight and hard everywhere then it is a contraction. It may be hard to tell because everyone says how painful the contractions are, which they are sometime and they are in labor of course, but you can have pain-less contractions. I had like 15 yesterday while I was walking and I could feel them but it didn't break my stride or even make me stop talking. Again, try to feel them with your hand. I hope this helps. And CONGRATULATIONS!!!

You are probably experiencing Braxton-Hicks contractions. These are a preparation for real labor. They are not as easily noticeable in first pregnancies though. Braxton-Hicks will not be painful or only mildly discomforting and will not increase much in strength. They may increase in frequency, however. I had a lot of Braxton-Hicks contractions with my 3rd child. They began in August and she wasn't born until November. They would begin every morning and by night time were easily coming 5-6 minutes apart, but would stop by bedtime. Real labor came with breaking of my water and the contractions were hard and quick as was her delivery. When the contractions start coming closer together and are stronger that will let you know it is the real thing.

ok honey, I answered your previos question but this has all the info....you are full term now, so I think you are getting ready to get birth to your angel. The contractions you are having are still apart from each other, so it could be hours, days or weeks before the real thing comes. Talk to your dr and let him know what's going on, so that he's informed. If they don't hurt that much ( and I assume that bc you are on your pc typing) they are not the real thing yet. Start walking a lot and drink lost of water. Let us know how it goes!! Congratulations

Just relax, they may very well stop. The dr.s for each of my pregnancies said to call when they are 5 minutes apart for over an hour so you have plenty of time. If you live far from your hospital you may want to call your dr. a little sooner if the contractions dont stop or cause you pain.

Call your midwife, tell her what is happening and see what she says, if you cant get hold of her, then call your nearest Maternity Unit and ask them should you come in!

Go to your hospital now. IMMEDIATELY. Even if it's false labour, you can't afford to take the risk that its not. GO NOW.
