Yes we both miss a salary and regardless of pension we now struggle to survive. It did not matter how careful we were, inflation ate it all away.

I've never struggled in my life, financially, and not because I was highly paid. I lived within the means I had at my disposal, not beyond it :-) Anyone who is "struggling to survive" having retired is likely to want/expect too much. I can moan about governments as much as the next person but I do believe that the benefits system does give everyone enough to,....have a roof over their head, be fed, and be warm. The other important things, friends, family, love and laughter,........don't cost a lot :-) Maybe I'm just lucky, not having a yearning for material things. Oh, soz, to answer your question, no I don't miss a large paypacket, and I was astute enough to not have to rely on benefits,......yet. :-)

I always was a saver and did plan extensively for my retirement. You're income in retirement shouldn't be all that much less than when you worked. My retirement pension has a cost of living adjustment yearly which also helps. I have been retired for exactly 2 years today and am not hurting at all financially. I was made for the retired life and managed to retire after 33 years on the job at age 51. I may decide to go on to do something else, but trust me...it'll be something of my choosing that I enjoy and can have total control of the hours I choose to put in. Plan, save, invest. Much of the 'stuff' you think you need while you are working, you truly don't. It is after all just stuff.
