I feel so helpless to do anything that will make a difference, or motivate more people to care about what is going on over there. It feels like everyone is either completely apathetic or just so distracted by their daily life that they can't be bothered. At least with Vietnam, Americans were much more vocal about resisting it. Is the difference now because of the lack of the draft? Is the attitude "well, I won't be drafted, so I don't have to worry about this"? Everyone knows that this war is wrong. Everyone knows that we were lied to and 'scared' into allowing it.

No one can see the end of it or succinctly state what our goal is and why it changes every two seconds...from find and dismantle WMDs...there were none...to "we meant 'remove Saddam'" (mission accomplished!)...to "we meant 'establish democracy'"...to "we meant 'fight terrorists over there so we don't have to fight them here.'"...which incidentally, was not a problem we had with Iraq in the first place on March 19, 2003.

Vote for those who will pull us out of Iraq so we can actually respond to Al-Qaida threats.

As it stands now, Iraq is in a civil war (or at least is within feet of one), the Taliban is continuing to strengthen in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and terrorist attacks are increasing in number globally.

Our military is stuck babysitting a civil war in Iraq, with no plan or hope for success ("stay the course" doesn't mean much when there is no actual course), and is unable to respond globally (or even locally, as evidenced in the Hurricane Katrina aftermath).

As far as the WMDs that were found go, the only ones we found were the ones given to Saddam in the early '80s by Regan and Bush Sr. to make Iraq a threat to Iran (they were also the weapons used on the Kurds). These were known and accounted for long ago, and were not a threat to the US.

There were WMDs in Iraq, they have been found.
Removing Saddam Hussein and instituting democracy go hand in hand.
Terrorism and links to terrorists were cited as causes for war.
These are not indictments, merely observations.

As to the Vietnam comparison. The situation in Vietnam was different. The American people could not see what we were fighting for and were understandbly against the war. The same attitude does not exist for many with Iraq. What you consider to be disinterest or apathy may indeed be silent assent by the majority. While there are many polls which say people do not support the way the war is being executed, the same polls show overwhelmingly that people do not support a premature withdrawal.

The war will be over when Iraq has a strong enough military and police force to maintain their own security. However, there will be a US military presence in Iraq for a long time to come. Whether you agree with the war or not we cannot just abandon these people. The war has some pretty rough points to be sure, but in the end it will benefit the people of Iraq. They already have a freely elected government for the first time in many of these people's lifetimes. In the end the country may not make it. It may indeed revert to chaos or dictatorship again. If so this will all be for naught, but I for one believe that the people of Iraq deserve the chance to be free and determine their own destiny. Rather than having destiny determined for them by a cruel madman like Saddam Hussein.

I think you are mistaken. The war against Iraq ended a long time ago. We are no longer fighting the Iraqi's and Saddam's regime. People still call it the "war in Iraq", but it is now a part of the war against Islamic fascists.

Oh and by the way.... we did find plenty of WMD, but the media won't report it.

Islamic fascists have brought the war on terror to Iraq and that is who we are fighting now. Iraq is just the battlefield.

If you cannot separate the two, you are completely unable to help in this situation.

the only way to stop this war is to stop our governement and i do not mean the bush regime i mean our fully integrated government. from our powerlines to our cable to our policies we are run by our government. we have citizens patrolling citizens (nazi germany anyone?) not only that here in austin we have donated helecopters from the army that patroll IH-35 (major highway running right threw austin texas. they patrol all the time and have no other agenda but to fly around the lower class area of austin and spot light anything that they deem. the way to stop this war and out government (if you look back far enough clinton the last bush all the way back to washington we have had some kind of war and very little peace time.) we must re-orginize our way of life and no longer give our selves up to our government. even when the constitution was drafted we did not follow it nearly to the T. we have to rise against as our four fathers did we stood up and said no to big government in the civil war and we lost. do you remember shays rebellion? he went to congress and shut them down and said there must be change. force unfortunatly is the only way our government understands anything.

we fear our government, they should fear the people and they dont. they have a strangle hold on us. the war is something they want you to focus on. DONT, focus on who is doing it. it is our entire government from democrats to republicans to green. fear our government but the way to stop that from happening is the fight them.

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do. The government and the secret fraternal orders supporting it have a bigger agenda in mind that is bigger than you and me. We are merely pawns in this game. That is why the government doesn't care how many people we loose in this war. We are nobodies to them.

You want to help? Join the Marines.
That way, you can fight Al Qaeda in Iraq instead of in your front yard.
