In 2003 I moved my two Sky box from one room to another and reconnected them back to the phone line. Unfortunatly the cable that I used had some sort of problem with it (Think it only had two cores or something) and the Sky boxes wern't being seen by Sky any more. I didn't realise this and carried on as normal.
Now, rightly or wrongly, I had not been opening the monthly Sky statement as it always said the same thing so I was just filing them. When I did eventually open one in 2006 (Because I received two at the same time) I found that one of them was a disconnection notice for not having my Sky boxes connected to the phone line.
When I rang Sky to ask them about this they told me that they had been sending out a letter from time to time about this. They had also been increasing my monthly payments by 1-2 pounds a month. When I asked how much had been over payed it came out at over £750!!!!
I'm told that I am not allowed a refund for any part of these charges.

Any advice ???

Contact the Ombudsman at the following URL www.ombudsman.org.uk and make a complaint because you are entitled to a refund if you have been overpaying.

You have to have your phone line connected to the SKY box because every so often SKY connects to it to determine whether you have watched any box office movies stuff like that and they get a bit upset if you don't have it connected. It is part of the contract that the SKY box must be connected to an active phone line. Despite this it does seem a bit cheeky to increase your monthly payments. If they had not received a response from you for about the letters they have been sending you then why did they not try and contact you by phone ? Maybe they preferred to keep increasing the payments since you didn't complain ;o)

After the first twelve months it is not neccessary to have it connected to a phone line, mine's been out for 6 years and I haven't had any charges or up costs.
Tell them you are taking legal advise and will persue a small claims suit in the County Court.

I've not had my phone line connected for years and never had a problem. Just tell you'll cancel they'll soon change their mind. Actually EVERYONE call them and say your thinking about moving to freeview. They'll pass you to the "I'm going to talk you out of this" bloke who will offer a lower payment for 6 months.
I currently play £1.25 a month fo rthe basic package.

How strange.
I have never ever had my sky box connected to my phone line and I never had a disconnection notice for this.

You will probably find this is covered in the small print somewhere in the contract you signed.
