does any one have ntl digital television?

i noticed two new channels. they are 854 channel 4 audio desc
and 853 itv audio desc what is the purpose of these channels and what does audio desc mean.

Yes we have it and i think it is for the visual impaired because there is a voice over discribing what is going on, on the screen
