Is there any way to see if someone has been using my wi-fi signal to get online? I know you can open the router status screen and see who is currently connected but is there a way to track and log this when I'm not watching? And in a related question: What about when I go online as a guest on someone else's wi-fi network like at hotels and coffee shops. Can they monitor what I am doing?

Some routers support logging, and some don't. In any event you would have to turn it on because it needs a computer to save the file on. So going back, the answer is no there isn't a log.

Now you may be able to see it in DHCP. It usually will show active IP leases This depends on how long you have the lease set to expire. If it is a long time, the lease would stay active even if they disconnected as long as they didn't manually release the address.

Hope that helps. But just secure the net. If you are really worried set up MAC filtering that will only allow your computers to connect to it.

Easy check your router logs also on any home wifi connection you want to secure it because you don't want ppl leeching your net access for free

and when you go to coffee shops etc for free access me leary of signing your password ect in because there could be someone with a packet sniffer and decrypter trying to gain access to your accounts

You can turn it off and see if someone complains.
As said above you can Encrypt it.
Hot Spots at public places are usually not secure. I have used them. Most times when you first set up on a Hot Spot they may warn that it not secure and you should have Firewalls and Virus Protection as you are responsible for your own security.

Try : Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer -
Try looking in the security area of the Event viewer.

If you have an unsecured computer on an unsecured connection, a hacker could potentially get onto your hard drive.

How do you suspect that someone is on your Wi-Fi? I have noticed a decline in my connection speed. Could that be the problem?
