As a Native American man I can, obviously, not speak from personal knowledge, but in my experience, which includes travels to nearly 20 countries on 4 continents, it is largely cultural rather than racial. Black women I've met from Africa or Europe display no such behavior. The U.S. was founded by a largely puritanical group and those mores have shaped who we are as a nation. The Christians have persecuted and murdered gays with impunity for nearly a thousand years, they still do when they can get away with it. Gay people stay in the closet for that reason. I've known a lot of gay and bi black women who were totally out of the closet, and more who were terrified of being found out, especially those in the military. In some ways it is even worse for bis, since the gay community attacks us the same way the straights attack them, it's like Black people joining the Nazi party so they can both attack the Jews. This also applies to a lot of men so it is no more a gender than a racial issue. It's kind of a vicious circle, staying in the closet lets mainstream society trivialize gays and bis by claims of how few of us there are, but coming out of the closet opens us up to abuse, and until we all have the guts to come out of the closet, no-one can know how many of there are. Just remember, nothing good comes from a lie, and as St. Augustine said: "Victoria veritas est caritas." the victory of truth is love.

if you're unique to one yet another than you're a lesbian couple. in simple terms because i visit paint would not recommend i'm a painter even as i'm using a pencil to caricature a image. in case you also convey an occasional boy into the relationship then i'd say you're a bisexual couple, yet when all of your doing is one yet another. Then your suitable through calling it a lesbian relationship and also you're a lesbian couple.

It is not that hard to fin them. Atlanta is full of lesbians. I go to a private black college (mostly girls) and it seems like half of the people here are gay. It's like a dream come true. But my family is not very accepting of it. That is probably the reason others are still in the closet. Our families are not as accepting.

I don't mean to sound racist at all here, but I think it has a lot to do with Black American culture.

Have you also noticed that AIDS education is nearly impossible to find in the black community? This also holds true for the latino community as well.

I think it has to do with how those cultural grous view sexuality and "family."

But that's just my oppinion...I don't know...I could be really off too.

I don't know, but there are lots and lots of undercover people out there, and they only stay like that cause they care what other people think, and I don't care if they have the best personality or they are the best lay or they are soo beautiful, I don't want to be with them cause they care about what others think instead of whats in there hearts

I've noticed that within their culture(at least here in the States) blacks tend to be both more harsh toward other blacks that identify as LGBT as well as more influenced by peer pressure(and therefore quieter about their sexuality if they don't fit with the "norm")

That's a good question. I know white lesbians, and gay guys, both black and white. I don't know why they hide it.

i think (not in a racist way) but maybe its hard enough to go through life as a African American then to add on being gay-as a minority myself its just one thing after another and sometimes its just easier to hid.

good luck and stand out proud!
I try!
